Mountain Scenery

The Pyrenees have some of the most spectacular panoramic views in France. For the energetic, there are many hundreds of miles of marked walkways and cycle trails (see also our walking trips section). Some mountains have gravel tracks winding all the way to the top where you can take a car for an amazing panoramic picnic. (The nearest mountain to St Jean Pied de Port, Arrody, has such a track with a stone built bbq and picnic area just below the summit!).
Perhaps the most famous route is the GR65 “Pilgrim route” which is walked by pilgrims on their way to Spain every year.

The mountain of La Rhune (900m) on the Spanish border, has a train taking you to the summit where you can see the Basque coast and into the mountain ranges.
