Attractions

The Basque country consists of 7 provinces, encompassing the borders of France and Spain, entrenched in their own folklore, language and culture. St Jean Pied de Port is in the province of Navarre, the other two in France being Soule and Labourd. The Basque folklore often involves street dancing to ancient songs accompanied by pipes and drums, portraying the tales and fables of long ago. All around the Basque country are large stone walls (Frontons), usually dated, where the game of Pelota is played by hitting a leather covered ball bare handed!
